Pike place market opened on August 17th 1907 in an effort to connect farmers directly to customers. Over 100 years later the market still has a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables along with one of Seattle’s largest selections of flower bouquets. The Pike Place Fish Market is the most popular places in the market. Located at the front end of the market people from all over the world gather around to watch the famous fish toss where one employee throws a fish to another employee to weigh it before it’s sold. There are many great view points around the market. A wonderful view of Elliot bay can be seen from the north end of the market. There’s also a park across from the north end with places to sit and enjoy the view. Located in the section of the market is the location of the first Starbucks coffee shop to open. Opened in 1971, it’s still in operation today.
